PALMVIEW (KFXV) -- A 9-year-old boy remains at McAllen Medical Center is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle in Palmview.
Authorities released the 911 call by the driver who stopped to help -- exclusively to Fox 2 News.
Palmview police tells us the boy wandered off from his mother when crossing the underpass and was hit by a truck.
This is the call placed at 10:45 pm Monday evening after a driver struck a child on the intersection of Frontage Road and La Homa.
According to authorities, the mother and her four children were on their way to a local convenience store on foot, when the boy ran ahead.
The driver of the pick-up stayed at the scene until emergency responders arrived.
Police tell us the investigation is ongoing and will wait on the driver's toxicology report to determine if any charges will be filed.
We will continue to follow up to see how the child is doing. As of tonight he remains in critical condition.
